FIS COUNCIL AMENDS 2015 COMPETITION SCHEDULE AT NOVEMBER MEETING

With 15 months remaining until Vail and Beaver Creek host the world for the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships, the FIS Council made final modifications to the 2015 competition schedule during their November meeting in Oberhofen to enable two full days of downhill training for both ladies and men. The modifications were deemed necessary following a review of the 2013 World Championships competition schedule in Schladming in order to ensure two complete training runs, given a similar single finish area in Beaver Creek for both ladies and men. The television pictures that are beamed to the world throughout the two weeks of the 2015 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Vail and Beaver Creek will be provided by an internationally recognized industry leader as EUROVISION has been named as the official Host Broadcaster of the 2015 World Championships. The past summer was another extremely busy one on Beaver Creek Mountain with Phase II of the ladies’ speed course construction getting underway, seemingly as soon as the last snow melted from the racecourse. Crews also removed old television cable off the men’s Birds of Prey course, in addition to finishing electrical, telecommunications, fiber connections and safety installation on the ladies’ track. SECURITY COMMITTEE CONDUCTS SECOND ROUND OF 2015 TABLETOP EXERCISE

Local and regional governmental, resort and emergency personnel gathered in Vail October 3 to discuss, plan and prepare for the 2015 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships as the Security Committee hosted a second round of tabletop exercises. Over 80 participants were immersed in a simulated emergency situation centered around the men’s Downhill competition that required extensive interaction between organizations. The exercise was a continuation of the scenario originally presented to the group last fall, designed to assist in learning how to better coordinate efforts, resources and communications during an emergency situation. Ford Amphitheater for the official kickoff of the 2015 volunteer recruitment process. Beaver Creek Mountain has once again been a buzz of activity this summer as Phase II of the ladies’ speed course construction has been underway seemingly since the last snow melted from the racecourse. Crews have been busy pulling old television cable off the men’s Birds of Prey course, while also finishing electrical, telecommunications and fiber connections on the ladies’ track. At the end of July, 75 A-Net towers were helicoptered into place on the ladies’ course. The towers will support the 12 new A-Nets, which will account for approximately 2,500 meters of netting, some of it double.

Construction of new 2015 Media Center Progressing Well

Members of the world’s media will have a new home when the ladies’ and men’s World Cup tours descend on Beaver as construction on the new restaurant that will house the 2015 World Championships media center at Red Tail Camp is progressing well as mid-summer approaches.
